NEC put out this system to American gamers in 1989, but despite the 16 bit moniker, it wasn't much more advanced than the NES, and was blown out of the water by the Genesis.

This 32-bit originally started in the arcades, and introduced arcade quality gaming and transferrable memory cards (so games started in the arcade could be continued at home). A MASSIVE price tag killed the home console, though the arcade games lasted much longer.

The last known competetor to the Game Boy's throne in America was superior to the Game Boy Colour in power, and had some excellent remakes of games such as Metal Slug and King of Fighters, but NEC's financial problems killed the system before it's time.
